The challenge
The client needed one place to run their day-to-day operations: tracking inventory, scheduling maintenance and reporting on both. The goals:
- A central platform to monitor inventory levels and stock movement.
- Scheduling and management of preventive maintenance, to reduce unexpected equipment failures.
- Useful reports to support data-driven decisions.
- Simpler, streamlined workflows through a user-friendly interface built with no-code tools.
- Integration with the existing CMS back end, so records stay in sync without manual work.
The solution
Using Retool’s drag-and-drop interface and pre-built components, we built a custom web application around the client’s operations, integrated with their CMS back end. It includes:
- Real-time inventory tracking and status updates.
- Maintenance scheduling with reminders and status tracking.
- Automated reports capturing key operational KPIs.
- CMS integration points for updating inventory and maintenance records without back-end intervention.
- A responsive, intuitive UI for operational staff.
Linking ongoing maintenance schedules to constantly changing inventory data was the main technical challenge. We solved it with modular Retool components connected through back-end data queries, and used validation rules and configurable workflows to keep data consistent and reduce user errors.
